My life as a textile artist started with my mother teaching me to sew when I was 8 years old and has progressed from sewing all my clothes in high school to studying Fashion Design in the late 70's @ Virginia Commonwealth University & Parson's School of Design, through to owning my own clothing companies, Pattiy Torno Inc. & Tornado Clothing Company, Inc., in the 80's & 90's.
In 1995, I began the body of work of fine, modern, "Extraordinary Quilts" which garnered me acceptance into the Piedmont Craftsman & Southern Highlands CraftGuilds. The new millennium saw an expansion of what I do to include a line of "Fun Fleece" hats, scarves and blankets as well as the newest incarnation of my clothing design work "Eclectic Clothing". Over the years, I have juried shows in NC & Georgia as well as served as an expert to the standards committee of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild in textiles.
In 1989, I began a journey that has become CURVE studios & garden. So, in addition to all my handwork, I have created a set of buildings, that contain studio space for 13 artists, that is open to visitors everyday from 11am to 4pm. As a founding member, I also continue help to nurture and grow Asheville's River Arts District & moderate the websites: www.ashevilleRAD.com & www.CURVEstudiosNC.com
